Survival & Witness is a free online platform from the University of Denver’s Holocaust Awareness Institute that brings the stories of Holocaust survivors who made Colorado their home into the classroom.
It was built to support Colorado’s Holocaust and genocide education requirement (HB20-1336). It offers survivor profiles, a Holocaust timeline, an interactive map keyed to the survivors’ stories, a glossary and resources for educators, in English and Spanish.
Two of the survivors profiled have spoken at Remember 6 events: Barbara Bandler Steinmetz and Oscar “Osi” Sladek. They appear alongside Estelle Nadel, Fred Marcus, Henry Lowenstein, Jack Adler and Paula Burger.
“Become a witness to history as you follow the stories of these men and women whose lives were forever altered by the Nazi war against the Jews of Europe.”
For teachers and families: the platform is free to use and aligned with Colorado’s educational standards, and it is a good companion to the resources on our Let’s Learn page.
