Past Event · 2026
Survivors, civic leaders, and neighbors gathered in Denver to remember the six million — and to carry their stories forward.
In Remembrance
Survivors, civic leaders, and the Denver community came together once more — to remember the six million, to honor those who lived to tell their stories, and to stand firmly against antisemitism.
The Ceremony
How the community gathered to remember, honor, and bear witness.
The Color Guard opened the ceremony with the presentation of the colors.
The gathering rose for “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “Hatikvah,” Israel’s national anthem.
Presented by Dr. David Murphy, retired Colonel of the U.S. Air Force.
Asher Ben Basat, Oscar “Osi” Sladek, David Zapiler, and Barbara Steinmetz spoke on memory and the rise of antisemitism in our day.
Hannah Sperber — raised in a Nazi home in Germany and later converted to Judaism — shared her story alongside Rabbi Joe Charnes.
Holocaust survivors lit candles in memory of the six million.
Throughout the ceremony, Catherine David provided ASL interpretation.

Never Forget
From the presentation of the colors to the lighting of memorial candles, the 2026 Denver Holocaust Remembrance brought survivors, faith leaders, and neighbors together in one purpose: to honor the victims of the Holocaust and confront antisemitism in our own day. Through the voices of survivors — Asher Ben Basat, Oscar “Osi” Sladek, David Zapiler, and Barbara Steinmetz — the gathering renewed a solemn promise: never again, and never forget.
