On May 5, 2024, Holocaust survivor David Zapiler, then 91, shared his story at a Remember 6 gathering at Babi Yar Park in southeast Denver. The Villager’s Freda Miklin covered the event in the first of a two-part series about Zapiler and fellow survivor Barbara Steinmetz.
About 100 people attended, including city officials and local dignitaries. The Villager described Remember 6 as “an organization dedicated to the memory of the six million Jews who were killed by the Nazis.”
Zapiler told how his family escaped Nazi-occupied Poland to Siberia and then Kazakhstan, before immigrating to the United States in 1949. He went on to build a successful business life in Colorado.
